Your driver licence

For some, a driver licence means independence and freedom. For others, it’s a necessary tool for their work. But being on the road carries a risk – for you and others road users. Whether you want a licence for a motorcycle or car, or to operate a passenger bus or bulldozer, your licence comes with responsibilities. The requirements you have to meet aim to ensure you have the skills and knowledge to drive your vehicle safely. This section explains those requirements and the steps to take to apply for, renew or replace your driver licence.

Your photo driver licence

Renewing or replacing

Generally your photo licence is current for 10 years. But you can replace or renew it any time. It’s particularly important that you replace lost or stolen licences promptly.
