Detour around part of Shands Road this weekend

The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that during the weekend of 20-21 January 2018, a section of Shands Road will be closed (between approximately 374 and 523 Shands Road) including the intersection with Marshs Road.

Detours will be in place via local roads and indicated by signage.

This detour will allow work on a temporary diversion road, which is being constructed to allow traffic to continue using Shands Road during  construction of the Shands Road interchange and bridge, part of the Christchurch Southern Motorway Stage 2 project (CSM2).

Motorists are advised to allow some extra time for travel in this area over coming months.

From Monday 22 January, 2018, traffic will travel along Shands Road temporary diversion. The speed limit will be 30kph. During this time Marshs Road will be closed on the north-west side of the intersection with Shands Road for up to four months. There will be no access to Main South Road from Shands Road via Marshs Road. Access for those living within the closure area will be maintained from the Main South Road end of Marshs Road.

Please be alert to changes in traffic management, follow all signage and drive to the conditions.
