Freight detours required during Matamata roadworks January-February 2016

|

Heavy vehicles are to be detoured off Matamata’s main street during roadworks on SH24 Broadway in January and February.

Heavy vehicles are now being detoured off Matamata’s main street at night during roadworks on SH24 Broadway.

The NZ Transport Agency is recommending heavy vehicles avoid the Matamata area during the works which are now under way until mid-February.

Contractor Transfield Services, now called Broad Spectrum, is repairing the road surface on Broadway from the SH27 roundabout to the Burwood Road roundabout.  Work for the northern end is being done at night, while the southern section with be mostly day works.

Light vehicles can use Broadway during the night works but the Transport Agency encourages heavy vehicles to avoid the Matamata area at night (by using SH1 and 29 for instance) and those trucks approaching the town from the north and south will be detoured off Broadway. The detours for trucks will be extended to both day and night at various times between 17-29 January to protect the new surface.

Detours are well sign-posted and a traffic controller is at each end of the route to assist. Trucks needing to get in and out of the town for pick-ups and deliveries have options available.

The detour route for trucks is Burwood Road-SH27. Another option is Tower Road-Rawhiti Avenue-SH27.
