The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that night works will be starting next week at the State Highway 1/3 intersection of Kahikatea Drive, Lorne Street, and Ohaupo Road in Hamilton City.

The night works are programmed to start on Tuesday February 2nd and are expected to take three weeks to complete. During that time work will be carried out each night, from Sunday to Thursday, between the hours of 7pm and 6am.

Construction work will continue to be undertaken during the day between the hours of 7.30am and 7pm from Monday to Friday, and between 8.30am and 5pm on Saturdays – in addition to the night works noted above.

The night works will enable NZTA to carry out the final stage of the intersection upgrade and complete pavement rehabilitation and re-surfacing work.

NZTA started construction to upgrade the signalised SH1/3 Kahikatea Drive/Ohaupo Road/Lorne Street intersection in July 2009 and construction is expected to be completed by the end of February.

NZTA Hamilton State Highway Manager, Kaye Clark, says the upgrade will improve traffic capacity by incorporating free left-turn lanes, longer right turn bays, and enhanced pedestrian and cyclist facilities.

The night works will involve lane closures and minor delays are expected. NZTA apologises for any inconvenience caused.

These night works are weather dependant and may be postponed if the weather is unsuitable.
