Road layout to be finalised on Chapel St

|

The final road layout under the Viaduct on Chapel St for the NZ Transport Agency's Harbour Link Project is not expected to be completed until early November.

NZ Transport Agency's Project Manager Kevin Reid said that construction of a new traffic island on Chapel St, completion of the Takitimu Dr on-ramp and new road surfacing at the Chapel St/Marsh St intersection still has to be completed.

"Until the final road layout is in place, the planned cycle lane under the Viaduct cannot be installed. We would ask cyclists heading to the CBD from Otumoetai/Matua to use the footpath on the estuary side of the Chapel St and then use the traffic signals at Bay Central Shopping Centre and Chapel St/Marsh St intersection to cross the road. The roadway can be used but be aware of left-turning vehicles into Marsh St," he said.

"I would like to thank cyclists for their patience while construction work has been carried out on the project. Once completed, pedestrians and cyclists will enjoy the benefit of improved facilities – a well-used one now is the designated pedestrian/cycle path on the new harbour bridge."
