Wellington regional transport update – no 2

The Wellington Regional Transport Response Team says while the Wellington transport network is returning to normal, people still need to take care and plan for their commute home.

WRTRT Chair Inspector Mike Wright advises that all highways are now open, with some local roads still impacted.

Motorists should factor in some delays when they are planning their drive home tonight, Inspector Wright says. Drive with care, adjust your speed as necessary, and watch for surface flooding and debris. There may also be crews out repairing the roads.

Public transport users should check the MetLink website for latest information www.metlink.org.nz(external link) and allow extra time due to potential delays to weather-impacted services.

While the rain forecasted for the rest for the afternoon and evening is not as severe as originally expected, travellers should keep an ongoing watch for rain and river levels that may affect transport links.

Please check the NZ Transport Agency website www.nzta.govt.nz, Transport for Wellington website www.tfw.govt.nz, the @nztawgtn Twitter feed(external link) or nztawgtn Facebook(external link) page before traveling, as conditions are subject to change at short notice.
