Skid resistance investigation and treatment selection

Published: | Category: Skid resistance & texture , Surfacing , Specifications | Audience: Road traffic engineers & consultants

This specification (2013) and guidance notes outline the process for identifying sites where treatment to improve skid resistance may be justified and the process to be followed. In addition, previous versions of the T10 specification (1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2010, 2012) and notes (1997, 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2012) are listed as historical references.

The 2013 specification includes prioritisation process for both investigation and programming of treatments at the exception report stage and once seasonally corrected data is available. These provide for optimum use of funds rather than setting a standard that may not be able to be achieved.

In T10 2013 table 3 Minimum macrotexture requirements has been updated and a new section on the strategy for treatment of unstable chipseals has been included.
