Find out why we needed to review our funding and fees, and how the changes could impact you.
Allocation of land transport revenue
We’re recommending existing land transport revenue be allocated to pay some costs of regulation. Without this funding, all the numbers in Proposals 2–8 would increase.
Driver licence and driver testing fees
We’re proposing many common fees go down, because current average fees for licences and tests are set too high.
Motor vehicle licence and registration fees
We’re proposing most heavily used fees (eg rego) go up as costs to provide the services continue to increase.
RUC administration fees
Administration fees for RUC are included in the cost when you buy RUC, and we propose these admin fees rise as costs to process transactions rise.
TSL holder fees and charges
We propose increasing many fees and charges for TSL holders to reflect the actual cost to effectively regulate this group.
Motor vehicle certifier activities fees and charges
We’re proposing increasing charges to reflect the costs of regulating vehicle certifiers.
Access Waka Kotahi data charges
We’re proposing a set charge for MVR and DLR data users, and to start charging councils and council-owned entities for access to our data.
eRUC providers fees and charges
We’re proposing changes to fees and charges for eRUC providers.
