SH16 Kaukapakapa Village speed limits consultation

During mid-2017 the NZ Transport Agency consulted on proposals to reduce the legal speed limit in three locations on State Highway 16 approaching and within Kaukapakapa.

The speed limit changes were supported by all key stakeholders. A total of 275 public submissions were received during the consultation period, the majority of which were also in support of the changes.

The Transport Agency has set the new speed limits by making a bylaw in accordance with Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2017 and the Land Transport Act 1998. The new speed limits came into effect on 20 December 2017.

The new speed limits are:

  • SH16 North of Kaukapakapa village - A new speed limit of 80km/h from 160m north of North Crescent (North) to 95m west of Kanohi Road -  a reduction from the previous 100km/h speed limit.
  • SH16 South of Kaukapakapa village - An extension of the existing 50km/h zone  for a further 150m south east of Opoto Place - a reduction from the previous 100km/h speed limit.
  • SH16 South to 115m west of Henley Road - A new speed limit of 80km/h from 270m south east of Opoto Place to 115m west of Henley Road – a reduction from the previous 100km/h speed limit.
