We sought feedback on a plan we have developed for SH1 Cumberland Street and SH88 St Andrew Street to improve safety and provide easy access for everyone to the New Dunedin Hospital, including emergency services. Proposed changes in the plan include turning changes at three intersections including SH88 St Andrew Street/SH1 Cumberland Street north.

With 9 crashes between 2019 and 2023, the Duke Street/SH1 Cumberland Street south has been identified as a safety concern. We are proposing to address this by only allowing left turns out of the intersection on to SH1 south and remove straight through vehicle movements across the highway - the main cause of crashes at this site. We sought feedback on this proposed change.

We're proposing to install “No U-turn” signs at eleven intersections along State Highway 2 in the Hutt Valley to improve road safety. These changes will be rolled out in two phases, starting with the most high-risk areas. We sought public feedback on this proposal.

NZTA has opened new speed reviews on several sections of state highway that are categorised as urban connectors, after community feedback that people would like to keep lower speeds in these locations. Under the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2024 (the Rule), these sections are required to automatically reverse to their previous higher speed limit by 1 July 2025. These new speed reviews are proposing to change back to the lower speeds just after 1 July 2025.
