Application for replacement driver licence while overseas (DL2A)

Use this form if you need to get a replacement driver licence and:

• you're not in New Zealand, and 
• you don't have a verified RealMe identity. 

You may also be able to have your licence expiry date extended by up to 12 months. 

This application will take up to 20 working days to process, and then we'll send your new driver licence to your overseas address. 

Don't use this form if you're in New Zealand.

If you have a verified RealMe identity, and you don't want to extend your licence expiry date, you can apply for a replacement driver licence using a different application. This application is instant, and we'll send you your driver licence straight away.

If you're currently in New Zealand, and you have a verified RealMe identity, you can apply online for a replacement driver licence. 

If you don't have a verified RealMe identity, you can make a replacement driver licence application at a driver licensing agent. 

Before you make this application

Evidence of identity

You'll need to upload certified copies of your evidence of identity. Copies of your ID can be certified by a:

• lawyer
• solicitor
• notary public
• court registrar
• embassy official
• justice of the peace, or 
• police officer. 

Please make sure that the person certifying the documents clearly indicates which of the above they are. This is usually done by having the stamp/seal of the certifying officer/organisation stamped on the copy.

Payment

You'll need to call us to pay for the replacement licence before you make this application.
You can call us on +64 6 953 6270 Monday to Friday 8am to 5.30pm, New Zealand time. You'll need to pay the fee of $38.20 by Visa or MasterCard debit or credit card. 

We'll give you a reference number to include with this form. You won't be able to complete the application without a reference number. 

If you can't apply online

You'll need to download a PDF application form, print it and complete it, and send it in to us. You'll still need to provide certified copies of your evidence of identity, and call us first to pay the fee.

The information requested is required to process an application for a driver licence. Collecting this information is required by Part 3 of the Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Rule 1999. Some of the particulars you provide will become part of the Driver Licence Register. Collection, dissemination and release of this information is authorised by the Land Transport Act 1998 and Part 7 of the Privacy Act 2020.
