In first place was LicenseMe – a team focused on addressing the problem of safety for young drivers on restricted licenses.

Save One More Life Hackathon winners: LicenseMe

LicenseMe estimated their concept could save 55 young lives a year by increasing the time they spent behind the wheel and enhancing their learning by providing feedback from experienced drivers.

With this proposed concept, learner drivers could opt-in to have their driving behavior measured and logged (e.g. speed, braking, cornering, acceleration, etc.) – and receive expert feedback to develop their skills, giving them the opportunity to obtain their license early if they can demonstrate enough hours of quality driving.

As part of securing first place, LicenseMe will be talking with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency to take their concept further. However, there were so many interesting features among the twelve concepts pitched that our subject matter experts have been tasked with looking through these in more detail to see how some of these could be progressed as well.

However, the real prize was the connections and mutual opportunity to Save One More Life.
