4pm - Update - Significant traffic delays on State Highway 1, Paekakariki

|

A gas leak on State Highway One north of Paekakariki, Wellington is still causing significant delays both north and southbound between Plimmerton and Paraparaumu.

“As people prepare to travel home, we encourage them to delay their travel if possible and stay in Wellington, or consider leaving their cars in town and take the train,” Richard Hocken, Chair, Regional Transport Response Team. “The trains will also be experiencing their usual evening peak, so spare capacity may be better after 6pm.”

“We know that these delays are frustrating and inconvenient, and we appreciate everyone’s patience,” Mr Hocken says.

“Crews are working hard to fix the gas leak, and we will fully open the road as soon as we are able. However even once the road is open, it is going to take some time to clear the traffic backlog. If you can stay in town, you could consider having dinner in Wellington, and heading home later in the evening.”
