People heading to Dunedin’s airport at Momona this morning are advised to add an extra 25 minutes to the journey. A double fatality car/truck crash around 3 am means there are detours in place north and south of the airport.
The North Canterbury Transport Infrastructure Recovery (NCTIR) alliance will be setting up purpose-built, prefabricated accommodation in Kaikoura to house more than 300 men and women who will working on the massive rebuild programme which is aiming to fully re-open State Highway 1 and the rail corridor by the end of the year.
The NZ Transport Agency will begin consultation next week on a bylaw which will convert a range of temporary lower speed limits introduced on the Picton to Christchurch alternate state highway route after the November 2016 earthquake to permanent limits.
A serious crash, involving a car and truck, a few kilometres north of Culverden, North Canterbury, means State Highway 7 will be closed until this afternoon. The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause.
NZ Transport Agency crews are working at night this week on the Big Wainihinihi Bridge, between Jacksons and Kumara. Work starts tonight at 10pm with the bridge closed to 4am. The night closures run through to Friday morning 4am. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through.
State Highway 1, south of Kaikoura, will be closed to all traffic for eight days from 8pm on Sunday, 26 March to 7am on Tuesday 4 April to enable emergency slip face stabilisation work to be carried out.
The NZ Transport Agency is advising Kawarau Falls Bridge users, especially shift workers, that night work from Sunday, 26 March will mean the bridge is only open to traffic on the hour for 10 minutes, between 11pm and 6am.
State Highway 1 will reopen south of Kaikoura tomorrow morning at 7 am (Thursday, 16 March) after being closed since the weekend between Peketa/ the Kahutara River and Goose Bay due to fresh slips triggered by rainfall.
