Construction of SH2 slow vehicle bay begins next week

|

Work will get underway next week on the construction of a new slow vehicle bay on State Highway 2, as part of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency's work to provide more passing opportunities between Napier and Wairoa.

The site is located 2km south of Raupanga, on the southbound ascent after the Mohaka Bridge, after traffic passes under the Mohaka rail viaduct. Work will commence from 15 August, with trees being felled before contractors begin excavating approximately 39,000m3 of steep hillside.

Between 7:00am and 7:00pm, temporary speed reductions and stop/go traffic management will be in place, and delays of up to five minutes are expected. After 7:00pm, the shoulder will remain closed and a reduced speed limit of 50-70km/h will be in place.

Waka Kotahi thanks everyone for their patience while we make this important improvement to State Highway 2.
