Delays at Gladstone Road Bridge on Wednesday

|

Tairāwhiti Roads is advising road users that Gladstone Road Bridge will be reduced to one lane from 8am to approximately 12pm on Wednesday 23 January while contractors work to install precast columns across the bridge.

Due to heavy rain last Wednesday, the work crew had to postpone the installation which means another lane closure has been added to the schedule.

Manual traffic controllers will be in place to manage traffic on the bridge while the lane is closed.

“Traffic builds up on Wainui Road, Childers Road and Customhouse Street when the lane is closed, so drivers should consider an alternative route or allow an extra 10 minutes for their journey,” Tairāwhiti Roads General Manager Dave Hadfield says.

“Gladstone Road Bridge is one of Gisborne’s busiest thoroughfares, but locals have been very patient and understanding while work has been underway. The Tairāwhiti Roads team would like to thank the community for bearing with us,” Mr Hadfield says.

After the lane closure this Wednesday, there should be three further lane closures to finish installing columns and balustrades.

Gladstone Road Bridge is being widened to create a shared walking and cycling path to encourage more locals to walk and bike for their everyday journeys.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
