Delays at Gladstone Road Bridge this Friday

|

The NZ Transport Agency is advising that Gladstone Road Bridge will be reduced to one lane with stop/go controllers on Friday 16 November between 7am and 1pm.

The historic bridge is currently being widened to create a shared walking and cycling path, as part of Gisborne’s Urban Cycleways Programme aimed at getting more locals on their bikes.

Tairāwhiti Roads General Manager Dave Hadfield advises drivers to plan ahead for their journeys on Friday, as there will be delays in the surrounding area.

“Please be prepared for delays on Wainui Road, Customhouse Street and Childers Road while the stop/go traffic management is in place,” Mr Hadfield says.

The contractors plan to close one lane up to five more times between now and the end of the project in order to safely complete construction.

This Friday the contractors will be working to install concrete slabs that make up the widened bridge deck.

The project is scheduled for completion in March 2019.
