15 March 2023

The planned closure for today has been cancelled. We apologise for the late notice of this change.

14 March 2023

The one-hour closure of State Highway 2 over the Remutaka Hill will NOT go ahead this morning, Tuesday 14 March.

10 March 2023

A bad weather forecast means there will be no closure on Monday. So the closures will begin (weather permitting) on Tuesday, 14 March.

7 March 2023

Goat culling work on the Remutaka Hill will see State Highway 2 closed for hourly intervals next week.

From Monday, 13 March, to Thursday, 16 March, the route will be closed to all traffic between 9.30 am and 10.30 am daily.

The closures are for an aerial operation led by the Department of Conservation to control feral goats wandering onto the road, posing a danger to road users.

The safety of road users is a priority. This operation will help reduce the risk of feral goats causing an accident on the road.

All drivers must be aware of this work as it will create traffic delays. Road users should plan ahead and either travel before or after the closure times.

As the goat culling is an aerial operation, it is weather dependent. Drivers should check the highway’s status before they travel.
