|

Heavy rain is affecting the state highway network in Taranaki and people are advised to take extra care on the roads and avoid travel where possible

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises of the following slips and flooding:

  • SH45 between Okato and Opunake is currently closed due to flooding
  • Multiple slip sites on SH3 Mt Messenger are currently being cleared. The road remains open under stop/go traffic management
  • Multiple slips and flooding within the Awakino Gorge. The road remains open.

Before travelling motorists should check the Waka Kotahi travel information site Journey Planner for latest updates on road closures.

People needing to travel are reminded to drive to the conditions, and watch out for unexpected road hazards like surface flooding in low-lying areas, potholes, slips or fallen trees. Heavy rain can also reduce visibility.

Waka Kotahi is closely monitoring the state highway network and crews are out working to clear slips and ensure the safety of motorists.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
