Hutt Road temporary closure for D2P bridge beam installation

The last bridge beams for the new Dowse Interchange are to be lifted into place tomorrow night (Wednesday 27 August) requiring the temporary overnight closure of Hutt Road.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) says Hutt Road will be closed between Wakefield Street and Beaumont Avenue from 6.00pm tomorrow night until 6.00am Thursday morning in order to provide a safe working zone for the bridge beams to be lifted into place.

Access to Hutt Road properties in the work zone will be available but motorists are asked to follow a signposted diversion while the beams are put into position.  Having these last beams installed over Hutt Road, adjacent to the main part of the interchange structure, marks another important milestone in the project.

The D2P construction team will begin closing the road at 6.00pm so that the crane is set up ready to lift the beams in to place when they arrive from Ngauranga where the have been stored.  The beams will then be lifted over Hutt Road, completing the ramp from the roundabout over the state highway to Hutt Road.

In the event of high winds or other poor weather factors, work will be carried out on the next suitable evening.

NZTA asks for everyone’s patience while we continue working on the project which will improve journeys on SH2 between Dowse Drive and Petone.
