Local SH1 safety improvements getting underway from next week

The NZ Transport Agency is advising that work will be kicking off on safety improvements at two local SH1 intersections in the weeks ahead.

SH1 Safety Improvements Riverlands – Sheffield Street Intersection

Works are due to commence on Monday 26th January which involve improving the existing layout of the Sheffield St intersection with State Highway 1. The safety improvements include widening the southbound shoulder of the highway, and installing a left turn slip lane into Sheffield Street. Temporary speed restrictions will be in place during the works which are expected to be completed by the end of February.  

SH1 Safety Improvements Grovetown – Aberharts Road Intersection

Works are due to commence on Monday 16th February which involve improving the existing layout of Aberharts Road intersection with State Highway 1. The safety improvements include widening the shoulders on both sides of the highway, installing a right turn bay into Aberharts Road and a flush median at the Rowley Crescent intersection. Temporary speed restrictions and lane closures will be in place during the works which are expected to be completed before the Easter Holidays.
