Lower North Island/Upper South Island - planned state highway roadworks

|

The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (7 May 2023).

The bad weather affecting the top of the South Island may affect the timing of some of these works.

Weather Event:

While forecast rain amounts have eased, the top of the South Island will get more rain over the weekend and into next week. It could affect state highways and local roads and closures may happen at short notice if conditions deteriorate.

Residents and drivers must be prepared for the bad weather and take extra care on the roads. Please avoid travelling if conditions are unsafe.

If conditions worsen, it is important people stay up to date on road, weather, and Civil Defence information:

Other important information for road users:

  • In Wellington there will be monthly tunnel maintenance closures later this month. They will be on the following dates between 9 pm and 5.30 am:
    • Terrace Tunnel – Monday, 15 May
    • Mt Victoria Tunnel – Tuesday, 16 May

Further details about regional state highway conditions and roadworks are also published on our website:
