The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (27 November 2022).

Note: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. If bad weather should strike, work will be postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.

Wellington, Porirua, Kāpiti, Hutt

State Highway 1

SH1 Ngauranga Gorge

  • Sunday and Monday nights, 7pm-5am
  • Southbound one lane closed for rockfall safety works

SH1 Between Tawa interchange and Linden

  • Sunday to Thursday nights, 7 pm-5.30 am
  • One lane closed each direction for median barrier installation

SH1 Between Te Horo and North of Ōtaki

  • Altered lane layouts day/night for expressway works

SH1 Ōtaki, near Ōtaki River bridge

  • Monday to Thursday nights, 7 pm-5.30 am
  • Stop/go traffic control for expressway works

State Highway 59

SH59 Pukerua Bay

  • Monday to Friday during the day, 9am - 4pm
  • Stop/go traffic control for stabilisation works

SH59 Pukerua Bay coast road slip control works - Phase 2 - Update

  • Some activities at the Pukerua Bay slip control site may require stop/go traffic control.
  • Where possible, prior to 6 December, work will take place under a road shoulder closure with the highway open to two-way traffic.
  • Road users should be prepared for stop/go traffic control at times for safety reasons

SH59 Paekākāriki, north of Ames Street

  • Monday to Friday during the day, 9am - 4pm
  • Stop/go traffic control for drainage works

SH58 Haywards Hill Road, near Mt Cecil Road

  • Sunday to Thursday nights, 7 pm-5.30 am
  • Stop/go traffic control for project works

SH58 Haywards Hill to Pauatahanui

  • Monday to Friday during the day, 9 am-3 pm

  • Northbound and southbound passing lanes closed day/night for safety improvement project works

SH2 South of Featherson

  • Tuesday to Friday during the day, 9 am-4 pm
  • Stop/go traffic control for survey work

SH2 North of Featherston, near Camp Road

  • Tuesday night, 7 pm-5.30 am
  • Stop/go traffic control for chipseal resurfacing
  • Up to 2 days and nights after 30km/h speed limit on new chipseal

SH2 North of Greytown

  • Sunday and Monday nights, 7 pm-5.30 am
  • Stop/go traffic control for chipseal resurfacing
  • Up to 2 days and nights after 30km/h speed limit on new chipseal

SH2 Masterton, near Ngaumutawa Road

  • People travelling between Blenheim and Nelson need to detour via SH63 St Arnaud
  • Forestry road access to Hira for residents in the closure zone only

SH6 Dellow’s Bluff, Murchison

  • Night closures - Monday 5 December – Wednesday 7 December, 6 pm to 8 pm
  • The road will be closed while blasting, and rock clearance work is done
  • Outside these times the road is under 24/7, traffic lights, one lane, 30km/h
  • Rockfall and road dropout

State Highway 60

SH60 Bird’s Hill, Golden Bay

  • 24/7, traffic lights, one lane, 30km
  • Overslip repairs in progress
  • Hump and road dropout

SH60 Motueka, between Whakarewa Street and Poole Street

  • Event closure - Sunday 6th December between 5 pm and 8.30 pm
  • Motueka Starlight Christmas Parade
  • Traffic management in place. Road closed between Whakarewa St and Poole St

State Highway 65

SH65 Shenandoah

  • 24/7, traffic lights, one lane, 30km
  • Road dropout
