Important information for drivers:
Lower North Island:
- Dates have been confirmed for planned maintenance night closures for State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill for the first half of 2025. Drivers also need to be ready for upcoming repairs on State Highway 2 between Masterton and Carterton
- Those who travel regularly between Wellington and Wairarapa can expect more traffic on State Highway 2 over summer, with a KiwiRail maintenance closure planned for the Wairarapa Line. The line will be closed from 26 December 2024 until 10 February 2025.
- The completion of a section of the State Highway 58 Safety Improvement Project means the speed limit has been increased on the highway between Harris and Moonshine Roads. Temporary traffic management has been removed and the passing lane is now open. The former 50 km/h speed limit at this location has increased to 80 km/h.
- Repairs will be underway out on the State Highway 1 Manakau North Rail Bridge from 26 December until mid-March. The site will be subject to a 30 km/h temporary speed limits until this work is completed.
- Scheduling changes and bad weather mean resurfacing work for the State Highway 1 Urban Motorway will begin this Sunday (15 December)
Top of the South Island:
- Road reconstruction work on State Highway 63 at Wye River and State Highway 6 on the Whangamoa Hill continue until 20 December. There will also be repairs under way on the Pelorus Bridge on State Highway 6 on Tuesday (17 December).
- Underslip repairs have finished on State Highway 60 Tākaka Hill and the road has reopened to two lanes.
- State Highway 60 will be closed in Tākaka township on Saturday morning for the town’s Christmas Parade. The closure will be between Motupipi and Meihana Streets and run from 9:30 am to 10:45 am.
