Ngaruawahia Bridge Painting

|

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) advises that work is underway this week to repaint the Waikato River Bridge on State Highway 1 at Ngaruawahia.

Contractors are currently setting up their site and will start installing scaffolding to gain access under the bridge today (Monday 1 October, 2012). Work will then begin with water blasting the steel work under the bridge which will be followed by sandblasting in preparation for painting.

The work will not disrupt the normal use of the bridge by traffic and provision will be made for activities already planned on the river in coming months.

The painting will be completed by February 2013 in time for the major Ngaruawahia centenary celebrations in March 2013. The handrails above the bridge deck will be painted in heritage colours to match the overall town colour theme chosen by the Waikato District Council.
