Although they’re relatively small projects, each of these should provide localised safety improvements for our most important customers - people

More than $1.9m has been earmarked for expenditure in the current financial year for 19 projects aimed at improved safety for both pedestrians and road users.

The projects range from the installation of safer pedestrian crossings to better designed and more visible right hand turn bays.

We’ve classified the projects as ’Minor Works’, and each will be completed this financial year (ending July). Some of the more significant projects include:

  • Haruru Falls, near Paihia, route lighting - $130,000
  • Te Ahu Centre, Kaitaia, pedestrian crossing - $78,500
  • Portland Rd, Whangarei, right turn bay - $220,000
  • Portland Rd, Whangarei, bridge extension - $220,000
  • SH12  Wallis Rd, guardrail curve and realignment - $135,000
