NZTA advises drivers to avoid Newmarket viaduct after crash

|

The NZ Transport Agency says a truck and trailer has rolled on the Newmarket Viaduct on Auckland’s Southern Motorway (State Highway 1)

The NZTA says the crash is causing congestion in both directions and it advises drivers heading both south and north to avoid the viaduct and use alternative routes.

The crash happened around 2pm. Two of the three northbound lanes are blocked, and debris from the crash has also spilled over into the southbound lanes of the viaduct obstructing traffic.

The NZTA says it expects the highway to be cleared in time for this afternoon’s rush hour but it says until then, delays will be considerable and drivers should use other routes.
