NZTA closing airport motorway link for safety work

|

Sections of the motorway link to Auckland International Airport will be closed for four consecutive nights from tonight, 23 May, until Friday morning (27 May) because of work associated with the upgrade of the Walmsley Road on ramp at Mangere Bridge.

The closures start at 9pm each night until 5am the next morning. They affect the southbound lanes of both State Highways 20 and 20A.  SH20 (the Southwestern Motorway) will be closed from the Walmsley Road off ramp to Massey Road, and SH20A towards the airport will be closed from the off ramp to Kirkbride Road.

People driving to the airport will be diverted off the Southwestern Motorway at Walmsley Road to McKenzie and Kirkbride Roads.  Traffic heading to Manukau and beyond will be diverted from Walmsley Road to Robertson and Massey Roads.

All northbound lanes will remain open.

The closures are necessary so that contractors can complete the final surfacing of the highway as part of the safety improvements at the Walmsley Road on ramp.  The upgrade will prevent people using the on ramp to weave across the Southwestern motorway to reach SH20A.
