One lane now open at slip site west of Ōpōtiki

|

One lane is now open on State Highway 2 near Ōpōtiki but the NZ Transport Agency is advising people to should remain cautious.

The slip occurred in the early hours of this morning at the Waiotahi bluff.

NZTA Bay of Plenty Transport System Manager, Rob Campbell, says one lane opened this afternoon but people can continue to expect while the rest of the slip is cleared.

He says people should take extra care and be prepared to stop at short notice in the eastern Bay of Plenty as the latest heavy rain is making the area prone to slips and trees coming down.

All road users are also advised to drive with extra caution and prepare for delays on State Highway 35 between Ōpōtiki and Gisborne due to multiple slips and drop-outs. The road is reduced to one lane at several locations, particularly between Hawai and Omaio
