Nightly closures of Onehunga Harbour Road, for installation of deck segments for the new Mangere Bridge, will begin next Tuesday 2 February.

Nightly closures of Onehunga Harbour Road, for installation of deck segments for the new Mangere Bridge, will begin next Tuesday 2 February.

Onehunga Harbour Road will be closed between 11pm and 5am on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for most of the next six weeks.

Detours will be in place for traffic that uses the road to get to and from the northbound lanes of the Southwestern Motorway (SH20).

The pre-cast deck segments being installed over the road will form the connection between the new bridge itself and the motorway.

The work is being done at night, with the road below closed to traffic, for safety reasons.

Special arrangements are being made to ensure access is maintained to and from the western end of Onehunga Harbour Road, including the Onehunga Port.

The road will not be closed on nights it is needed as a detour for other closures for works associated with the Manukau Harbour Crossing project.  The first instance of this will be next Wednesday 3 February when the northbound motorway lanes are closed overnight while a 35-metre pylon is erected for the new Beachcroft Avenue footbridge.
