Overnight resurfacing on SH5 near Taupō – Tuesday 8 February update

|

Waka Kotahi contractors will be undertaking overnight works to replace the road surface on State Highway 5 immediately east of the State Highway 1/SH5/Napier Road roundabout on Friday 11 February.

Tuesday 8 February 2022 update

The below works, which were due to take place overnight on Friday 11 February, have been postponed to Wednesday 16 February. All other details remain the same.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.

Due to the location of the worksite in relation to the roundabout, SH1 will be closed between Broadlands Road and Napier Road, to provide a safe working environment and allow work to be completed more efficiently, with fewer delays.

A detour will be in place between 7pm and 5am with Stop/Go traffic management and a 30km/h speed limit around the roundabout during this time. Traffic management crews will be present setting up and packing down equipment an hour either side of the closure times, and minor delays can be expected during this time.

The detour avoids an active worksite on Miro Street in Taupo, where a road is being re-built.  Please follow all detour signs and any directions from traffic management crews.

The detour for northbound traffic is via Crown Road, Ashwood Avenue, Claret Ash Drive, Mahoe Street, Manuka Street, Miro Street and Broadlands Road.  The detour for southbound traffic is the same, in reverse. Please allow for an extra 5-10 minutes to travel along the detour route.

In case of poor weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may need to be postponed. People are encouraged to visit the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Journey Planner website(external link) before they travel for the most up-to-date information on the road closure and works.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience while we undertake this important work to maintain the state highway network.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
