Partial overnight closures for Kawarau Falls Bridge

|

Work on installing a new gas pipeline on the Kawarau Falls Bridge on State Highway 6 between Frankton and Kelvin Heights near Queenstown, will result in limited overnight closures of the bridge from later this month.

The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) says these closures between 11 pm and 6am, start from Monday 25 July 2011 and continue until the morning of Friday 29 July. Traffic can use the bridge for two 10 minute periods each hour, one on the hour and the other at half past the hour. Access will be provided for emergency services at all times and the pedestrian footbridge will remain open.

NZTA Area Manager John Jarvis says because this is a single lane bridge, a partial closure is unavoidable to allow this work to be carried out. It is being done over night with no work on Friday and Saturday to minimise disruption to road users,

Mr Jarvis said the installation work is part of a gas pipeline network expansion programme to provide secure gas reticulation to meet growing demand from developments south of the Kawarau River.

Updates on this partial overnight bridge closure will be available on www.highwayinfo.govt.nz(external link) or by phoning 0800 44 44 49 once work commences.
