Plan ahead and allow extra time if going to Auckland Airport this afternoon

|

Motorists driving to or around Auckland Airport this afternoon are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time because of an event with potential to cause disruption on the transport network.

An event with a large gathering is planned at the Manukau Memorial Gardens at 4pm. The Gardens are beside where State Highway 20 connects with State Highway 20B to the airport.

“It’s not clear at this stage how many people plan to attend, but the 4pm timing of the event coincides with the start of evening peak traffic so motorists can expect some traffic congestion and delay in the area,” says Auckland Operations Manager Rua Pani.

“People trying to get to the airport for flights need to allow extra time.”

“The alternative route to and from the airport is SH20A, but this is also subject to congestion at this time of night, so again motorists using this route need to plan ahead and be aware there could be delays.”

Anyone in the Auckland Airport area is advised to avoid the roads around the Manukau Memorial Gardens and avoid using SH20B or SH20. Use the alternative route to and from the airport, which is SH20A.

People who are going to the Memorial Gardens are also advised to plan ahead and allow plenty of time to get there. There is parking for 1000 vehicles at the Gardens and overflow parking can be accessed on Prices Road off SH20B. Drivers will be directed to the Flightpath Motocross Park. From there, a shuttle bus will take people to the Memorial Gardens.

Motorists are advised to take care and look out for pedestrians around the SH20/20B interchange as there may be vehicles parked on side roads.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
