The NZ Transport Agency wants to thank Wellington commuters for their patience on the roads this morning during the 24 hour rail strike.

“It was very pleasing to see commuters heed the warnings and allow extra travel time into the city,” Senior Journeys Manager Neil Walker says.

“The Wellington Transport Operations Centre observed an increase in the number of cars on the road at an earlier hour of the morning than usual. That meant traffic flows weren’t impacted as strongly at peak times.”

NZTA’s planning for the event involved providing additional resources for transport management teams as well as working to minimise the impacts of roadworks on the Wellington region.

“While the morning was relatively smooth, we are strongly encouraging commuters to put the same thought into planning their journeys home this afternoon,” Mr Walker says.

“We also want to remind commuters to go online before they travel and take advantage of the NZTA’s real-time travel information and traffic updates.”
