Rakaia Gorge Bridge delays from Monday, 16 November

The NZ Transport Agency will start work on Monday, 16 November, repairing running boards on the Rakaia Gorge Bridge, inspecting the bridge’s steel truss support from the bridge deck and installing new kerbs on the bridge.

This means only one lane will be available during the day on the bridge deck.

The work will continue for three weeks until early December, getting the bridge in better shape for the summer holiday period.

Drivers can expect delays of about 20 minutes with three five minute clearances over the workday hour.

“This deck work is important from a safety and maintenance perspective and our contractors will ensure minimal disruption and delays. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” said Lee Wright, Transport Agency Journey Manager.
