Recommended detour routes to Hamilton International Airport

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) would like to remind motorists that the SH21 Narrows Bridge, which crosses the Waikato River just south of Hamilton on Airport Road, is closed until further notice.

The closure of the Narrows Bridge will require some travelers to Hamilton International Airport to take an alternative route.

People travelling to Hamilton International Airport on SH21 from the Tamahere side of the city are advised to allow approximately 30 additional minutes for their journey. The recommended route to and from the airport during the Narrows Bridge closure is via SH3 (Ohaupo Road).

Motorists heading to Hamilton International Airport from the south via Cambridge are advised to follow the detour signs to the airport which start just south of Cambridge. Travelers using this southern detour via Kaipaki and Mystery Creek Roads are advised to allow an additional 10 minutes for their journey.
