Remutaka Pass sign installed

|

Following a New Zealand Geographic Board decision to assign the name ‘Remutaka Pass’ to a previously unnamed pass, the NZ Transport Agency has placed a new sign at the car park at the top of the pass at on State Highway 2 between Upper Hutt and Featherston. The pass separates the Rimutaka Range from the Tararua Range.

The information board outlining the history of the road will also be updated to reflect the name of the pass.

The NZ Geographic Board advised that Remutaka Pass will be the name of the pass only, and that the names for Rimutaka Hill and Rimutaka Range and Rimutaka Hill Road are unchanged.
More information about Remutaka Pass is available on the LINZ website http://www.linz.govt.nz/regulatory/place-names/place-name-consultation/13046(external link)
