The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) says water levels from recent heavy rain have reduced the Makarewa river Bridges at SH6 to one lane, while on SH99 there is water across the bridge, and closure is imminent.  The flood waters on the SH6 section are expected to peak about 4pm. Both areas have flood warning signs in place and the road contractor will remain at the two sites to monitor the situation.

The NZ Transport Agency says it is hard to put a timeframe on when the flood waters will recede. The road contractor will escort vehicles prepared to travel through only while it is safe.

Information on road closures is available on the NZTA’s Highway Info website at www.highwayinfo.govt.nz(external link).
