Roadwork planned on SH3 at the Awakino Tunnel on Wednesday August 10 – expect delays

|

People travelling on State Highway 3 (SH3) between King Country and Taranaki on Wednesday may encounter delays of up to 10 minutes while urgent work is done at the Awakino Tunnel.

The NZ Transport Agency says the fine weather forecast on Wednesday 10 August will enable contractors to repair pot-holes that have appeared on the road surface inside the single-lane tunnel.

Work will be done under stop-go between 9am and 3pm with traffic held for a maximum of 10 minutes in each direction. Traffic will be let go sooner if lengthy queues develop.

Emergency vehicles will be managed through without delay.

The Transport Agency thanks people for their patience while this work is done.

Plans to bypass the tunnel by 2020 are underway. Consultants are currently conducting investigations, ahead of consultation and design work.
