Safety works underway across the Bay of Plenty

|

The NZ Transport Agency is carrying out safety improvements to a number of sections of the state highway network across the Western Bay of Plenty.

Transport Agency acting Bay of Plenty Highway Manager, Andrew Scott, says the work is part of the Transport Agency’s ongoing effort to reduce deaths and injuries by creating a more forgiving road network in the region.

Mr Scott said the safety improvements have been targeted to high-risk sites with a history of crashes.

“This work is part of our focus on improving the safety of the roads and roadsides and making the road environment more forgiving in the event of a crash.”

This package of improvements will provide drivers with further roadside protection, improved site distances and safer right turning movements at intersections.

Work will be happening at the following sites until the end of June:

  • State Highway 2 Pukehina Station Road - installation of a right turn bay.
  • State Highway 2 Pukehina Beach Road - installation of a right turn bay.
  • State Highway 2 Walker Road - installation of guard rail.
  • State Highway 2 Gill Lane – installation of guard rail.
  • State Highway 36 Taumata Road – sight distance improvements and power pole relocation.
  • State Highway 29 Ruahihi Road - installation of a right turn bay.

These safety improvements are being delivered as part of the Transport Agency’s commitment to the Safe System approach, looking at safer roads and roadsides, safer road use, safer speeds and safer vehicles.

The Transport Agency advises that there will be minor delays while these important works are carried out and thanks motorists for their patience.
