UPDATE: SH1 Brynderwyns will not re-open this afternoon

|

5.45pm update: Due to a recurring slip identified just before the road was set to re-open for northbound traffic, SH1 Brynderwyns to Waipu will not reopen today. Our crews are currently onsite working to clear the slip and will review the cause of it given the relatively dry weather this afternoon.

Following this, the entire route will be reassessed and geotechnical reviews will be carried out.

Motorists can continue to use the local detour (light vehicles) or via SH12 and SH14 (heavy vehicles). Please expect delays. We apologise for the inconvenience.

This information updates the bulletin below.

4.30pm update:

Another slip has meant SH1 Brynderwyns will be delayed in reopening to northbound traffic. It will take at least two hours to clear the slip, and another update will be provided at 6pm.

Motorists can continue to use the local detour (light vehicles) or via SH12 and SH14 (heavy vehicles). Please expect delays. We apologise for the inconvenience.

3:31pm traffic bulletin:

Crews have been onsite at the SH1 Brynderwyn Hills just north of the SH12 intersection today, clearing steep slips and falling trees.

Now that this clearing work has been completed, we are able to open the road for northbound vehicles from 4pm to 8pm to help alleviate traffic.

We will be closing the road overnight and will re-assess the road again in the morning, with safety being our top priority.

Our contractors will be on-site monitoring for any additional slips on the road and should there be any concerns, we will not hesitate to close this route if it becomes unsafe.

Speed restrictions will be in place, so we urge motorists to use caution and drive to the conditions.

Light vehicles heading southbound will need to continue to use the local detour, while heavy vehicles will need to continue to use SH14 and SH12.
