SH1 Desert Road to be closed for removal of crashed truck

|

The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists that SH1 through the Desert Road will be closed to all traffic for up to five hours from 1pm today to allow for the safe recovery and removal of a truck which was involved in a crash on the road this morning.

Contractors will be working as quickly as possible to get the road re-opened.  Motorists can check our website www.highwayinfo.govt.nz(external link) or 0800 4HIGHWAYS for updates.

The Transport Agency says removal of the crashed truck will require the use of heavy lifting equipment as the vehicle is well down a bank on the side of the highway, approximately 20km north of Waiouru.

The detour routes for both directions of travel will be via SH46, SH47, SH4, and SH49. Motorists following the detour should expect to add 40 minutes to their journey.

The Transport Agency apologises to motorists for the inconvenience and says contractors will do everything possible to safely remove the truck and re-open the road as quickly as possible.
