SH2 Waimana Gorge expected to reopen to one lane this evening

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises State Highway 2 is expected to reopen to one lane in the Waimana Gorge between Fraser Road and Stanley Road at around 6pm this evening.

The road currently remains closed after a slip earlier today.

Once reopened, the road is expected to remain open to one lane only, under priority give way traffic management, overnight.

A crew will remain on-site overnight to monitor the slip and there is a chance the road may need to close again. Motorists are encouraged to visit the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website for the latest information about traffic management, road closures or detours for the site.

Where possible, people should delay their travel or consider the following alternative route. Eastbound traffic from SH2 should turn left onto SH2 Taneatua Rd, onto Valley Rd, then turn right on Gorge Rd, right onto Ohope Rd, right again onto Pohutakawa Ave, then right Wainui Rd. Westbound traffic should take the same route in reverse. This route is not suitable for HPMV.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
