The NZ Transport Agency advises of the following opening sequence today for Mt Roskill Extension on the Southwestern Motorway.

The NZ Transport Agency advises of the following opening sequence today for Mt Roskill Extension on the Southwestern Motorway [SH20]:-

Eastbound direction (towards the airport)

  • The new SH20 Mt Roskill Extension will be opened in the eastbound direction from the new Sandringham Road roundabout to Queenstown Road Bridge from 3pm Friday 15 May.
  • The link between the new Sandringham Road roundabout and Richardson Road will also be opened in both directions from 3.30pm.

Westbound direction (towards the city)

  • The new SH20 Mt Roskill Extension in the westbound direction between Queenstown Road and Hillsborough Road will be closed from 10am Saturday 16 May until 4am Monday 18 May (a signposted detour will be in place via Queenstown Road and Herd Road).
  • The new SH20 Mt Roskill Extension is scheduled to open in the westbound direction from Queenstown Road Bridge to the new Sandringham Road roundabout from 6am Monday 18 May.

A 50 km/h speed limit will be in place at the approach to the Sandringham Road roundabout. Motorists are advised to slow down and drive with caution. Traffic cones will be laid out on the approach to the roundabout. They will remain until motorists are familiar with this section of the motorway.

In the event of wet weather the westbound direction will be opened on the next fine night during the week of Monday 18 May. Delays are possible as motorists adjust to the new route.
