SH32 Western Bay Road closed due to a large slip

|

The NZ Transport Agency advises SH32 Western Bay Road will be closed to all traffic due to a large slip near Waihaha.

Waikato System Manager Karen Boyt says our contractors will work hard to clear the site so we can get the road open safely to motorists as soon as we can.

“The location of the slip has been under repair for an existing slip, however our contractors discovered the slip has increased in size and the road needs to be closed due for safety reasons.”

The NZ Transport Agency thanks road users for their understanding and patience.

We ask all motorists to use the alternative route and allow extra time for their journeys.

The detour is via SH41 and SH1 to Taupō (northbound) and Poihipi Road/Whangamatā Road. For southbound Whangamatā Road, Poihipi Road, SH1 and SH41 and will be clearly sign posted.

The Transport Agency will continue to provide updates via social media and the NZTA website and expect the road to be re-opened in around 2 weeks.

Further details will be provided end of this week.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
