SH35 Busby’s Hill down to one lane for resilience work

|

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising that work is underway to improve resilience on State Highway 35 at Busby’s Hill, just south of Tokomaru Bay.

The work is part of the State Highway 35 Resilience project which aims to strengthen and stabilise State Highway 35 so it can remain open and functional during disruptions such as weather events,  allowing locals, visitors and goods to get where they need to go.

Crews have started work at the Busby’s Hill site today to investigate ground conditions and depth of the slip at this location, which will help verify the design that will be used to stabilise the slip. A blessing of the site was led by Te Whānau a Ruataupare today to mark the start of this work.

A drill rig will be on site for up to ten days, depending on weather. Due to this, the road will be down to one lane with stop/go traffic management in place between 7am and 6pm. Traffic lights will be in place outside of these hours.

Motorists are being advised to take care when passing through the site and adhere to the temporary speed restrictions.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
