Speed restrictions and minor delays on SH2 this month as Tauranga Eastern Link works continue

Motorists travelling on State Highway 2 (SH2) between Te Maunga and Welcome Bay Road over the next week are asked to drive with extra care, with several key areas on the Tauranga Eastern Link project undergoing changes.

Update - Monday 15 December

NIGHT WORKS – State Highway 2 – between Te Maunga and Bruce Road at the Mangatawa interchange site

From 6.00pm on Monday 15th December through to 6.00am on Tuesday 16th December. To allow placement of the concrete bridge beams, all State Highway 2 traffic will be diverted on to the new Mangatawa interchange northern on and off ramps to then re-join the State Highway. During this time a manual stop/go and 30km/h temporary speed restriction will be in place.

NIGHT WORKS - State Highway 2 between Domain Road and Welcome Bay Road

From 7.00pm on Monday 15th December through to 6.00am on Tuesday 16th December To allow line marking, removal of old line marking and the placement of concrete protection barriers to be undertaken for the new Tauranga-bound slip lane, a manual stop/go and a 30km/h temporary speed restriction will be in place.

Please note: the new Tauranga-bound slip lane will be operational from approximately 10.30pm on Monday 15th December. All road users are asked to take extra care in the area due to the new road layout


Stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions of 30km/h will temporarily be in place on three stretches of the highway from this weekend, to allow contractors to lay bridge beams on the Mangatawa interchange and to start work on the Tauranga bound slip lane, among other works.

Sunday December 14 - SH2 between Te Maunga and Bruce Road

From 6pm all traffic will be diverted onto the Mangatawa interchange northern on and off ramps to allow contractors to place the Mangatawa interchange beams. Motorists should expect short delays until the work is complete at 6am Monday December 15.

Sunday December 14 – SH2 between Domain Road and Welcome Bay Road

Contractors will complete work on the new SH2 Tauranga bound slip lane near the Domain Road interchange and there will be speed restrictions and lane closures in place from 8pm that night until midnight followed by temporary closures between the hours of 9am and 4pm on Monday December 15 and Tuesday December 16.

Monday December 15 – SH2 between Domain Road and Welcome Bay Road

Stop / go and speed restrictions of 30km/h will be in place on Monday December 15 between the hours of 7pm and midnight to allow contractors to safely remove line marking and to place concrete barriers. Manual stop / go along with a 30km/h temporary speed restriction will be in place.
