Speed restrictions on Te Rapa Expressway until Friday

|

Road works are continuing on the Te Rapa Section of the Waikato Expressway today and Friday with speed restrictions in place.

Sealing work is now complete on the section and there will be no further traffic diversions in place.

Traffic will be restricted to 50kph in places while sweeping and road marking takes place.

It is expected all traffic management will be lifted late tomorrow afternoon, weather dependent.

These works have been carried out to lay the second coat of chip seal on the Expressway between Wairere Drive and the Horotiu Interchange.

Drivers are asked to take care and factor the speed restrictions into their journey time.

NZTA Waikato Expressway Principal Project Manager Richard Young says the sealing work is part of the planned stages to finish the road surface. The first coat of chip seal was applied before the road was opened in December. The second coat seal is applied before the first winter to ensure the road is water proof before the final seal is applied.

“We’d like to thank motorists for their patience while this work has been undertaken,” Mr Young says.

The NZTA’s website is regularly updated with information on significant road works locations; and also information on other road closures and detours as they come to hand - go to www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic(external link).

This information is also available by phoning the NZTA’s freephone on 0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49), which can also be used to report any significant road issues or hazards which people may come across during their travels.
