The NZ Transport Agency is urging motorists to take care on the roads as a belated winter blast descends on the lower North Island.
“In weather like this, you need to change your driving and respect the conditions. That means being extra cautious when it comes to watching your speeds and following distances and taking it easy on corners,” says regional performance manager Mark Owen.
Mr Owen says the Transport Agency particularly urges caution on the State Highway 2 Rimutaka Hill Road, where high winds are expected. He says contractors will be monitoring the road closely to ensure it remains as safe as possible.
“Before hitting the road, we advise everyone to check the latest highway conditions or traffic cams online so you’re armed with the best information to help you on your journey.”
Mr Owen says the joint Transport Agency/Wellington City Council Traffic Operations Centre will be working 24/7 to monitor traffic conditions, manage disruptions, and keep motorists informed.
