Work to upgrade the State Highway 3/Cambridge Road/Arawata Street Roundabout in Te Awamutu is due to start next week.

The work involves upgrading the existing one-lane roundabout to a two-lane roundabout and the provision of a shared footpath for cyclists and pedestrians.

NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) State Highway Manager Kaye Clark says the roundabout upgrade will enable the intersection to cater for the higher volumes of traffic that are expected to be generated by retail development on Cambridge Road, which includes a new Pak’N’Save supermarket.

Mrs Clark says the contractors will endeavour to keep traffic delays to a minimum and traffic free flowing at all times through the roundabout. However, this may not always be possible.

Some delays are expected and motorists are asked to observe the directions of on-site personnel.

Weather permitting, the work will start during the week commencing Monday 15 March and is expected to be completed in mid June.
